About

A scapegoat is someone who is blamed for the wrongdoing of others.

In the good old days, a priest would ceremonially lay the sins of the village or town on a goat, and then banish the goat into the wilderness.

Of course, these old days weren’t so good if you were the goat.

Then again, if you’re thinking “I’d rather go into the wilderness than stay with a bunch of villagers who’d dump their sins on my head,” then you might enjoy some of the items in the shop. The ideas that fuel the design here are mostly inspired by cultures and cosmologies that have been scapegoated.

While the word scapegoat comes from the Judeo-Christian Bible (actually from a translation (well, really, a mistranslation)), similar practices have, of course, been conducted by people throughout history. There are records describing practices centuries earlier in what is now Syria, and daily footage of modern observance on any of the cable news channels.
